Dear Stoneham Youth Football and Cheer Families:
As you know, Stoneham Youth Football and Cheer is 100% entirely volunteer-run - from our Board of Directors to the Coaching staff (coaching is not a paid position). The more volunteers we have, the more smoothly and successfully our program will run. For the 2011 season, we will need approximately 12 volunteers for each home game, with 8 games and 4 home dates, we require 200 volunteers per home season or approx. 400 volunteer hours.
Therefore, during the 2011 home season, one parent from each family will be required to volunteer a mandatory 1.5 hours (1 game) to the program. The Volunteer Coordinator will compile a volunteer assignment spreadsheet in mid-August with everyone’s assigned volunteer time and date. If you cannot make your assigned time and date, it is your responsibility to trade with another parent. If you would like to request a certain date, time and/or duty in advance or if you would like to volunteer more than once or even every week, please feel free to contact the Volunteer Coordinator during the first or second week of August:
Patti Carelis, SYFC Volunteer Coordinator, patti.carelis@gmail.com
The dates for the 2011 home games are as follows: September 11; September 2; September 25, October 9, and October 16.
Game times are as follows:
Titans (1st and 2nd grades) 9:00 a.m.
Crusaders (3rd and 4th grades) 10:30 a.m.
Spartans (5th and 6th grades) 12:00 noon
Gladiators (7th and 8th grades) 1:30 p.m.
You can volunteer at any time during the day. You do not need to volunteer during your child’s game time (of course if it is for the chain gang, you will be even closer to the action).
We will need volunteers for the following positions:
- Two (2) for Set Up - Two (2) people 1/2 hour prior to the start of the first game to make sure the field is clear, help set up equipment on field, ensure trash bags are in receptacles, and make sure toiletry supplies are in bathrooms;
- Three (3) for the Chain Gang - Three (3) people for each game to hold Down Markers on the sidelines;
- Two (2) for Traffic Control - Two (2) people in between each game to direct traffic out of lot and new cars into available spaces;
- One (1) for Trash Pickup - empty full containers during games;
- Two (2) for 50/50 Raffle - sell 50/50 raffle tickets for each game, pick and announce winner to crowd;
- Two (2) for Clean Up - Two (2) people 1/2 hour after the end of the last game to make sure the field is clear, help remove equipment from the field, ensure trash has been emptied, and make sure toiletry supplies are re-stocked in bathrooms;
- Two (2) for floating/fill-ins - in the event we need an extra set of hands to perform any of the tasks listed above or to assist the Board in other areas while hosting visiting teams.
This type of volunteer format is very common throughout youth sports and has proven very successful for other youth football and cheer programs, as well as various other youth sports programs.
Thank you in advance!
